Powder Coating FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Powder coating: specifications and quality verification

These are the questions buyers and engineers actually ask before placing a first order. Every answer below reflects what our line can do today — sizes, tolerances, test standards and documentation.

Questions and answers

Q1What is the maximum workpiece size you can powder coat?

Up to L 60 × W 60 × H 190 cm and 15 kg. Pre-treatment, application and curing all run on the same automated line, so a part of that size does not have to be split across processes.

Q2How is film thickness kept even, and what about recesses?

Powder output and voltage are monitored by computer in real time rather than set by an operator. For complex surfaces we optimise spray angles so recesses and returns are covered. Production yield runs at around 99%, and a film thickness curve can be supplied with the batch.

Q3How is corrosion resistance verified?

By salt spray testing, to a standard of at least 500 hours and up to 720 hours where a programme requires it. The test simulates long-term attack from acid rain, chemical vapour and industrial exhaust.

Q4What colours can you match, and how is colour drift controlled?

Colours are specified from the RAL range, with custom shades on request. Every batch is verified with a spectrophotometer for ΔE and a gloss meter for sheen. Powder is stored in a temperature- and humidity-controlled room so particle quality does not change with the season.

Q5What documentation ships with an order?

Each batch carries a lot number with its inspection data. On request we supply a full quality report covering film thickness curve, ΔE, gloss and acid test — enough to satisfy a customer audit.

Q6Can you review a part for coatability before tooling is built?

Yes. We review edges, transition radii and hanging-point distribution to identify where film thickness would build up or where a jig would shadow the surface, and check jig compatibility and part balance when hung.

Q7How do you avoid orange peel and blistering?

The curing oven is fitted with product temperature probes, so we monitor the actual part temperature rather than the oven air. Heat distribution across the oven is matched to the specified curing curve so the coating fully cures in its optimal window.

Q8How does powder coating compare with liquid paint?

Powder coating uses no organic solvents and overspray is recovered and reused — our recovery rate is above 95%. Single-pass film build is higher than with liquid paint, and cured hardness, adhesion and corrosion resistance suit automotive and industrial service life better.
